Or should I say grand-moms? Last weekend, my mom and David's mom came to visit. (The pictures from the last post were taken last weekend when they were here.) They arrived Friday and on Friday night we took them to eat dinner at the country club. The weather was great so we sat out on the patio. Saturday morning my mom, Mary, Savannah and I went on a walk at Wash Park while David played golf. We met Christy, her husband Corrie, and their daughter Hayden for lunch at Park Burger. Christy is David's first cousin who lives in Denver. Park Burger is a burger joint near our house that has delicious burgers. I always get the buffalo burger and some sweet potato fries. It was funny that Christy suggested meeting there because the last time the moms came to Denver (February), we tried to go there for dinner upon my request (i.e. craving) and the wait was like 1 hour so we didn't stay and I was upset. I had a craving for a buffalo burger so we went down the road to the Pearl Street Grille because I knew they had buffalo burgers....and they were out of them! I was so upset! So last weekend's trip to Park Burger hit the spot.
After lunch, we went to Michaels, Lowes, and Pottery Barn Kids. We bought some paint to use to paint the letters (AUSTIN) to go on the nursery wall. David painted these so I wouldn't have to be around paint. We aren't sure which wall they are going on yet, but once the valances for the windows are up, we will decide. At PBK David picked out a rug to go in Austin's room. We bought that with gift cards and credit we had accumulated. Then of course we had to pay Paradise bakery a visit. My mom practically dreams about the chocolate chip cookies at Paradise before she comes to Denver each time. They don't have Paradise in Houston and she always looks forward to getting them here. It is buy 6, get 6 free. So, naturally we got a dozen cookies. They were all gone by Monday when the moms left. After shopping we went home to shower before church. We went to church and dinner afterwards at D'Corazon (mexican) downtown. It is not Houston or Texas tex-mex, but it is decent for Denver.
On Sunday, David and his mom went to Black Hawk casino (about 40 minutes from Denver in the mountains). My mom and I went to the gym and then to Target, Marshalls, Bed Bath and Beyond and TJMaxx. We were shopping for pillow shams for the daybed in the nursery, some storage baskets/containers for nursery, and just looking around for other things that might be useful. We found some shams that are a khaki color which will go with the bed skirt. The bed skirt, accent pillows, valances, and cushion for the bay window bench are being made by a decorator and should be ready in about 2 weeks. My mom also bought me some comfy, button-up PJs that I can wear around the house for a few weeks when Austin arrives. After all of our shopping, we came home and organized. We put all of Austin's extra blankets, swaddling blankets, and burp clothes in a bin under the crib. We cleared off a shelf in the bathroom cabinets for his towels, wash cloths, and bath toys. We organized the dresser drawers and hung up some of his clothes. When I say "we", I mean that my mom did most of it (THANK YOU!). David and Mary got home as "winners" kinda. David won $75 and Mary broke even. They helped us hang the Peter Rabbit prints that I got on amazon.com above the day bed. (I will post pictures when everything is finished). We went to eat at David's and my new favorite pizza spot called the Garlic Knot.
On Monday we woke up and got to work on cleaning the windows. This turned out to be quite the challenge. Our house was built in 1940 and I think most of the windows are original. We discovered that some of them are painted shut and most of them are double-hung storm windows. We have asked 3 of our neighbors if they know how to get to the 6 different panes of each window to clean them, and they don't have any suggestions. We cleaned the windows in the breakfast room that are not old storm windows and a few others in the house. We cleaned what we could and I am very thankful to have had the help doing this. We still have dirty, closed shut windows in a few places. Not sure what we are going to do about these yet. My nesting urge really wants to get this taken care of before Austin comes! We just might have to hire a professional. I am so thankful for my mom and Mary coming for the weekend to help get things ready around the house and in the nursery. They were such a big help! We still have some setting-up of items such as the swing, pack 'n play, car seat, stroller, etc and need to hang the window shades and valances, but I have to remind myself that it will all get done.
