Campbell is One!

Campbell turned one year old on April 7th.  That year flew by!  It seems like just yesterday we were headed to the hospital down the road and leaving Austin with my mom to wait for baby brother to arrive.  At 1, Campbell weighs 18 lbs 7.5 oz, which is 9th percentile in weight.  He is 31 inches tall, which is 87th percentile. His head is 18 inches around, which is 38th percentile.  He is tall and thin!  Looking back, I couldn't find how much Austin weighed at 1 year, but he weighed 23 lbs 4 oz at 15 months, which was 58th percentile and 18 lbs 15 oz at 9 months, which was 25th percentile.  Campbell is just a much smaller guy, but tall.  He is still comfortable in size 3 diapers.  He has become attached to his two lovies- light blue "Angel Dear", one bunny and one elephant.  At one, Campbell has 8 teeth, 4 bottom and 4 top.  He started taking steps right around his birthday and is officially walking as I write this on April 24th (started walking about 1 week ago).  His favorite way to walk is with a plastic golf club and ball in hand, as if he is golfing.  He is copying his big brother's every move (not usually a good thing...uh oh).  He is sleeping 7pm-6:30am.  Right around his first birthday, I transitioned him to 1 nap.  He usually gets tired around 11am, but I try to make him wait until noon to go to sleep.  He sleeps about 2-3 hours.  He still sleeps in a sleep sack because the medium sized that we have still fit him and because I think he would possibly try to climb out of his crib if he weren't in a sack.

He is eating 3 solid meals a day with 1-2 snacks.  At one, we have moved to nursing at morning and night and will stop whenever he is ready.  His favorite foods are pears, apples, oranges, green beans, sweet potatoes, butternut squash, spaghetti squash, chicken, grilled cheese, turkey sausage links, carrots, pasta with red sauce or white sauce.  Of course he likes snacks like veggie sticks and yogurt (Sometimes).  I cannot get him to eat avocado or plain cheese (cubes or sticks).  Some days he will eat scrambled eggs and some days he won't.  He needs these fatty foods to gain some meat on his bones!!!  He knows how to say "all done" by waving his hands in the air and shaking his head.  He tried whole cows milk and is fine with it and will drink it plain.  He is completely off the bottle and only uses a sippy cup.

He is usually more interested in what is going on around him than in eating.  He loves playing with his brothers golf clubs and loves being outside.  Every time her hears the door chimes, he tries to walk or crawl to the door.  When outside, he likes the cozy coupe car, golf clubs, the trampoline, the various balls we have accumulated, and also bubbles.  He gets his fair share of stroller rides and usually gets bored after 40 minutes so I always have a snack handy - after all, we know the kid could use some more pounds.  He knows our neighbor Nolan, who is four months older.  They come over to play every so often.  Campbell loves Thomas the Train and starts bobbing his head, as if dancing, whenever he sees a Thomas toy, Thomas on a book, cup, plate, toothpaste container, etc.  He also loves Itsy Bitsy spider song, If You are Happy and You Know It, Wheels on the Bus, and of course, Florida Georgia Line's "Cruise" because Austin is still obsessed with that song so obviously Campbell knows it too.  We have greatly reduced how often we listen to it - only when I take them in the double stroller on a walk, Austin is allowed to listen to it and Campbell bobs his head with a big smile.  Campbell loves to wave and clap his hands.  He gives high fives and kisses on the check upon request.  He says "da" for dog, but that is the only word I have identified so far.  We are working on "MaMa" every day.  I do think we have an extrovert, socialite on our hands.  For example, I took Campbell to the library for baby story time this week.  He was the only baby who would not sit still in their mother's lap.  He wanted to be walking around checking out everything.  During he parachute time, everyone was sitting in laps, but Campbell was walking under the parachute, out in the center, trying to reach the top as it flowed above his head.  Not shy at all!  He is also sooooo tough - he gets bumps and bruises all the time without tears and Austin steals his toy, grabs his arms and legs, pushes him down, and usually it doesn't phase him or he screams at the top of his lungs only because he isn't big enough yet to steal the golf club back from Austin or push him back.  Oh just wait.......

I am sure there is much more I am forgetting but hopefully this sums up our crazy second little boy.  We love you Campbell and can't wait to see what God has for you as you grow bigger each day.  Your smile lights up the room, especially the smile you get when your big brother says "hey little buddy".

Some Bunny Turned One!

On the Saturday before Easter, we celebrated Campbell's first birthday with a Peter Rabbit themed party at our house.  It was really nice weather, so we were able to be outside. We had finger sandwiches (grilled cheese and chicken salad), berries, veggies (Mr McGregor's Vegetable garden), cheddar bunnies, and marshmallows (bunny tails).  I made a carrot cake with cream cheese frosting, white cup cakes with butter cream frosting, and a white smash cake with blue frosting for Campbell.  MiMi gave Campbell a bounce house with slide and DiDi gave him a baby pool with 200 crush proof multi-colored balls.  Fun!!  Annabelle, Austin, Meredith Mraz and Rhett (the big kids), and Ben and Summer (the really big kids) jumped in the bounce house and played basketball in the driveway.  Campbell, Marshall Mraz, Brooklyn Baker, Jake Bogart, and Nolan Hayes (the babies) played in the balls and tried to bounce with the big kids.  Campbell loves getting in the bounce house and sliding face first into the grass off the slide.  He has no fear!  He liked his cake okay but was more interested in the balloon tied to his high chair and smiling at all of the guests.  Social little guy!  The favors were garden tools, carrot bubbles and cheddar bunnies in a carrot shaped bag.  It was a fun party for our little bunny.  Come to think of it, Campbell is a bit like Peter Rabbit - always going after what he isn't supposed to and getting into mischief.  More on Campbell at One Year in the next post....

Easter

We celebrated Easter in Houston last weekend.  Austin warmed up to the Easter bunny this year but still wouldn't take a picture with the bunny.  We went to Lakeside for the breakfast with the Easter bunny and egg hunt on Saturday morning.  Austin was dying to break through the flagged off eggs before they blew the whistle but then when they blew the whistle and all the kids ran for the eggs, he got scared.  Silly boy!  He thought there would be candy in the eggs but much to his disappointment, there were stickers and other prizes.  Not to worry, there were donuts on the breakfast buffet.  We ate breakfast while the bunny visited our table, but the pictures below are the best I could get.  Campbell wasn't scared but maybe just a little confused.  Austin of course wanted to ride on the golf cart and play golf soon after polishing off 2 donuts, some eggs, and some of DiDi's bacon.  Campbell just took it all in.  This baby boy loves the action!  Annabelle and Allison came too. Grandad drove Annabelle in a golf cart and David took Austin.  We had a great time even though it was a chilly, breezy morning for April in Houston.  Later that afternoon we celebrated Campbell's first birthday (more on that in a separate post).  The next morning, the boys found the baskets and gifts the Easter bunny brought and Austin's searched the house for every egg that the bunny hid.  These eggs had 2 starburst jelly beans in each egg. Talk about stingy!  Haha.  The bunny brought Campbell his very own Thomas the train and Austin an Astros baseball hat and some Hot Wheels cars.  We went to church and celebrated the reason that we live - because Christ came to earth, died, and was resurrected, all for us!  I pray that my boys will learn this and believe this with their whole hearts as they grow up.  After church, we came home for nap and continued the Easter celebration at MiMi's and Big Deal's house that afternoon.  The cousins hunted for eggs in the front yard.  Man, MiMi's Easter bunny is very generous bringing M&M's and other chocolate candy, and also money to the tune of $135, split between the cousins.  We ate dinner, played and opened baskets too.  Austin sure loves playing with Ben, and Summer too.  He just follows Ben around like a shadow.  Hopefully he doesn't mind :)

Spring Break 2015

Over Austin's spring break, DiDi and I took the boys to the lake for a few days.  It was very low key and simple, the way it should be with 2 kiddos.  We threw rocks in the lake, rode bikes, went to the playground, walked, went to HEB, etc.  One day, we drove to San Antonio to see Amanda, Meredith and Sara and their kids.  It was a quick visit but I am thankful we were able to coordinate.  We saw Mere and Matt's new house, jumped in the bounce house with Paige and Caroline (in Cecile's super cool yoga room since it was kinda a crummy weather day).  Then we all went to lunch where Sara met us with her youngest Anna (4).  It was one crazy lunch with 7 littles, but fun too!

On our way back to Houston, we stopped in Austin and had lunch at BB's awesome retirement community.  They even have a putting green there - Austin was in heaven!

Rodeo

March in Houston is all about the rodeo.  I have not been to the Houston rodeo (an actual performance) since I worked at Ernst & Young before we moved to Denver.  I have been lucky enough to go to the livestock show and carnival part with Austin for the past 2 years!  No really, it is fun, but also stinky - those animals smell!  This year I took the boys to watch the trail ride, which is the start of the rodeo weeks.  We went on a very cold and windy day to a park near West U to watch the cowboys, wagons, horses ride by and they also stopped for a break.

Then on the last Friday of Austin's spring break week, DiDi and Grandad took Austin, Annabelle, me and Campbell to the livestock show.  We saw baby chicks hatch, baby pigs drink milk (all 15 of them in 1 litter), had our clothes eaten by goats and llamas in the petting zoo.  Of course, the highlight were the new cars for sale that Annabelle and Austin loved sitting in and pretending to drive :).  There were tractors that Austin loved driving too.  He also rode the horse that was attached to a merry go round type thing. It was a fun outing and any real Texan should go every year.  Can you tell I am in a sarcastic mood?

Our neighborhood had a rodeo party complete with a petting zoo.  Austin rode the donkey/horse this year.  Last year he would not go near them.  Really growing up!  Finally, Austin's school had a rodeo party too.  He got to wear his boots and bandanna and parade with his stick horse.  There were games and prizes, and of course, snacks.

What a fun rodeo season!

Here come the Cowboys

This is as close as he would get to the Cowboys and their wagons
